Encounter Japanese culture set to a beautiful landscape
In Tokamachi, Niigata there are traditional farmers who live in harmony with the seasons of nature. In the spring you can experience newly blossomed tree leaves. In the summer the landscape is vibrant with color. Fall is host to the gold rice fields which must be witnessed in person to truly believe. Winter exhibits a heavy cover of beautiful white snow in every direction.
BIJINBAYASHI

Bijin means beautiful woman, and the beech forests of Matsunoyama are filled with lovely, tall, and slender trees very reminiscent of the beauty typically attributed to the fairer sex.

TANADA

Visit the unique terrace rice fields of Niigata, built around the topography of the mountains. Since no mountain is the same, each field provides a different experience. Hoshi Toge (Star Ridge) Tanada is the most famous rice fields of the region. It has been cited as a main reason to add visiting Japan to your bucket list. Maps are available.

WINTER SPORTS

Niigata is known for it’s heavy snowfall. It’s not unusual to see more than 3 meters of snow in Matsunoyama. Skiing and snowboarding are very popular activities within the village. There are many ski slopes with high quality powder snow, which host avid skiers from around Japan and the rest of the world.

The combination of rice fields, wooden homes, and small blooming flowers provides a peaceful scenic backdrop for your trip.
